Manual Therapy

Manual therapy techniques are skilled hand movements intended to improve tissue flexibility; increase range of motion; induce relaxation; mobilize or manipulate soft tissue and joints; manage pain; and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or restriction.  Our physical therapists select, prescribe, and implement manual therapy techniques when the examination findings, diagnosis, and prognosis indicate use of these techniques.

Here at ARSM, we recognize the value and desire of our patients to experience a “hands-on approach” to their therapy program.  We believe that the body has an extraordinary ability to heal itself if it is given the proper stimuli.  Nearly all of our patients receive some form of manual therapy technique during each and every visit to our clinic. We recognize the healing power of touch, and we see the value that it brings to our patients.

Our therapists have advanced training in a multitude of soft tissue and joint mobilization techniques.  We are proficient in techniques including:  High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust Mobilization, Maitland Approach, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization/Graston technique, trigger point therapy, Active Release therapy, Stain and Counterstrain, massage, stretching, Kinesiotaping, and Trigger Point Dry Needling.  We recognize that no one technique works for all people, so we feel that it is important for us to remain up to date and current in all available treatment options so that we can find the one that works best for you.

Research has consistently supported the use of manual therapy techniques in conjunction with appropriate therapeutic exercises in the treatment of most musculoskeletal injuries.

Below is a brief list of ailments that you may be experiencing that manual therapy could be of benefit:

  • Low back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Neck pain
  • Whiplash
  • Arthritis
  • Joint pain
  • Extremity pain
  • Tendinitis/bursitis
  • Sprains and strains

Our motto at ARSM is: “Your success is our success.”

We love to see our patients succeed. If you are experiencing musculoskeletal pain, what are you waiting for? Relief may be just down the road. Give us a call or stop in for an appointment. We welcome drop-ins and visitors.
